DEAN ALMOST DIED! I am FREAKING out!!!

For the whole episode, I was like yelling at my TV, “don’t you quit on me, Dean! You have to live! There are 13 more seasons!!!”

Fortunately, Dean survives. All I can say is that the show better not torment me like that again; I can NOT deal with the emotional stress. Maybe I’m insensitive, but I wasn’t really upset the John traded his life for Dean. I don’t really like John, and I feel like he wasn’t a great dead to Dean, so I felt like this trade was fitting.

I mean, I feel a bit bad about it because Sam and Dean are so obviously broken up about it, but, other than that, John’s death didn’t have a big emotional impact on me. The only moment I shed a tear was when John was telling Dean how he failed him as a father. And, of course, that just reminded me that John failed Dean as a father, and I was back to disliking him again. Although, I did feel bad that Sam decided to fight with John the last time they ever saw each other. That was clearly a rough moment for John, and I felt bad for him.

A bit.

He was kind of a bad dad to Sam too.

Anyway, it appears we’re down to two Winchesters now. In case you need a recap of the episode, Sam, Dean, and John are airlifted to a hospital after they were in a major car crash (caused my demons, I might add). Dean wakes up in the hospital only to realize that his body is in a coma, and he’s a disembodied spirit, close to death. Dean sees a reaper in the hospital and realizes that it will soon be his turn to die.

He communicates this to Sam via ouija board, which was one of my favorite moments in the episode. There was just something about it that was so funny to me, especially since neither of them believed it was going to work.

Anyway, after that, Dean encounters the spirit of a woman who is similarly close to death. However, he later discovers that she’s the reaper in disguise. She tries to convince him to let go of life, but, at the last minute, John makes a deal with the yellow-eyed demon (should I be capitalizing that? Is yellow-eyed demon a proper noun? Please check the dictionary and let me know) and swaps his life (and the colt) for Dean’s life.

I kind of saw this plot move coming, but man was that a TWIST. And, like, I’m sure this moment is going to echo throughout the seasons to come. I mean, if the brothers had daddy issues before, I can only imagine that this whole situation is going to make them even more psychologically confused. Don’t get me wrong, I am deeply and profoundly glad that Dean is still alive, but this is going to make things messy going forward, I just know it!

HEAVY SIGH.

Seriously though, this was a MOVING episode. When Dean was talking to the reaper about death and she was telling him not to become an angry spirit, I was pretty close to crying myself. I’ve been informed that the show only becomes more emotional from this point forward, so I guess I gotta prepare myself for THAT.

On a side note, I’m loving the Led Zeppelin reference in the title of this episode. They’re killing it with the classic rock in this show.

Final Rating: 9/10
