Review: Supernatural Season 7, Episode 1: Meet the New Boss
The new boss is the same as the old boss, apparently.
Man, was this ever a tough episode to slog through. I mean, talk about demoralizing!
I hope the whole season isn’t going to be like this because this episode was ROUGH on an emotional level.
First of all, I am both furious and concerned about Castiel.
I mean, I know that Levithan said at the end that he was gone, but that can’t be true, right? Castiel can’t go out like that! If he is going to die, it should be more meaningful, not that horrible and disgusting death. All I can say is that they’d better find a way to fix Cas and bring him back, trenchcoat and all.
On the other hand, I’m also FURIOUS with Cas. I mean, I’ve been angry with him for like half a season now, but now I’m really starting to lose my temper. HOW DID HE THINK IT WAS A GOOD IDEA TO TURN HIMSELF INTO GOD? Any idiot could have told him that that wasn’t going to work. Whenever someone tries to become all powerful in a TV show or movie, they immediately self-destruct. Plus, all the other angels told him that he couldn’t handle the soul juice. Why didn’t he listen???
Plus, Cas had to know everything he was doing was morally wrong. When he’s back in his right mind that angel has some explaining to do.
I’m also extremely concerned about Sam. There are a lot more seasons of this show, so clearly he’s not going to die. I’m guessing he’s in for a pretty rough time though. Honestly, I don’t know if I can stand to watch Sam go through endless psychological torment. Although, it does make a nice change from Dean enduring mental torture.
All in all, the only bright spot in this episode was Death turning up for a chat. Of course, you can always count on Death to create an emergency eclipse and open the door to purgatory. Good ol’ Death! He’s really starting to grow on me!
On that thought, I hope they remembered to untie Dr. and Mrs. Weiss when they were done ransacking their house. Those poor people had a difficult evening.

Dean and Anna sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G!
Okay, so I LOVE their relationship. Love it! Of course, I get that she had to go back to Heaven and be an angel again, but I hope she comes back and they can continue to have a connection. It’s not fair that every time either Sam or Dean have some romance, they have to leave the girl (or vice versa in this situation). So *hopefully* Dean’s relationship with Anna doesn’t end with this episode. (By the way, Anna can’t be her angel name. Apparently she has to have something that ends in the letters iel)
On another note, I find it funny that Dean is with an angel and Sam is with a demon. If you’d asked me in season one or two, I would have said that it would be the other way around.
In case you need a recap, in this episode we learn that Anna is an angel who decided she didn’t want to be an angel anymore. She explains that she wanted to be human because angels can’t experience the full range of emotions and experiences (Anna has one very human…
Wow, was that ever melodramatic.
I mean, I guess that’s The Last Kingdom’s specialty, right?
I didn’t expect Uhtred to be able to reclaim Bebbanburg easily, but even I am mildly shocked by the sheer level of disaster that he got himself into. I mean, if this was real life, all of Uhtred’s men would be dead in about five seconds! This is a TV show, so I expect that most of them will pull off miraculous escapes, but it’s still an utter DISASTER.
I mean, I do feel bad for Uhtred in this situation because there was no way he could have known that his cousin was alive (and seems to be taking fashion advice from the cast of Pirates of the Caribbean, by the way). If it wasn’t for Wihtgar, I think Uhtred would the lord of Bebbanburg right now, but, unfortunately, his cousin out maneuvered him.
I’m also disappointed that Uhtred didn’t get to kill his uncle. I think he deserved that after all his years of suffering. Although, I have to say that the uncle was not…
The whole time I was watching this episode, I kept thinking to myself “see, this is why I don’t go outside. Why go walk around in nature, which is dirty and wet, when you have a perfectly nice climate controlled house?” Basically, in this episode, Sam and Dean follow coordinates written in their dad’s journal to a stretch of forest where a wendigo (a kind of immortal, super strong cannibal monster) is snatching people up and torturing/eating them. The sister of one of the missing people (a guy with a DISASTROUSLY 2005 puka shell necklace) decides to go out into the woods to find him, so Sam and Dean are basically forced to come along.
Sounds like a fun weekend camping trip, right?
Overall, I was not a huge fan of this episode. It wasn’t as scary as the first one, but it was pretty dark and disturbing (although that’s kind of the point). Some of it was really over the top too. Like, when Sam and Dean go to talk to the person who survived the last wendigo attack, they find him sitting …
